The short version

There is no sign-up, no account and no contact form that gates your result. Your ZIP or address and your bill are used to calculate an estimate and are not stored afterwards. They are never sold or passed to solar installers.

What you type into the calculator

Your location and monthly bill are sent to this site's server, used to look up production and rate data, and returned to you as a result. They are not written to any database and no profile is built about you.

Location is passed to two US government services to do the lookup:

• NREL (National Renewable Energy Laboratory) - solar production and utility rate data, queried by approximate coordinates.
• US Census Geocoder - only when you enter a street address rather than a ZIP code.

Coordinates sent to NREL are rounded to about one kilometre, both to cache results and because that is all the precision the models need.

Server logs

The hosting provider records standard request logs - IP address, time, page requested, browser user agent - which are used for security and to keep the site running, and are retained only briefly. A simple rate limit counts requests per IP address in memory to stop automated abuse.

Cookies and local storage

The site sets no tracking cookies of its own. Your light or dark theme choice is kept in your browser's local storage on your own device and is never sent anywhere.

Advertising

This site may display advertising from Google AdSense to cover running costs. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendor cookies at aboutads.info. Google's own practices are described in its privacy and terms page.

Advertising is not tailored using what you type into the calculator - your address and bill are not shared with any advertiser.

Your rights

Because no personal data is stored, there is normally nothing to access, correct or delete. If you have emailed me, that correspondence exists in my mailbox and you can ask me to delete it at any time. Depending on where you live you may have rights under the GDPR or the CCPA; the simplest way to exercise them is to write to me.

Children

This site is intended for adults making decisions about their homes and is not directed at children under 13. No information is knowingly collected from children.

Changes

Any change to this policy will be posted here with a new date above. A material change will be noted on the home page.
